PET/CT scan using an 18F-labeled NOTA-octreotide tracer detects somatostatin receptor (SSTR) expression by using a specialized radioactive molecule that selectively binds to these receptors, which are commonly overexpressed on the surface of neuroendocrine tumor (NET) cells. During the scan, a IV catheter will be inserted into the patient vein, F18-NOTA is injected intravenously, followed by a rest period of about 60 minutes for tracer uptake. The patient then undergoes PET-CECT/NCCT imaging, which usually takes 8 to 10 minutes (in digital PET scanner). During non-ionic iodine contrast injection patient may feel warmth or metallic taste.

1. What is a PET CT scan?
It is a combined scan that shows both structure and activity of organs.
2. Why is it used?
Neuroendocrine Tumors (NETs),Somatostatin receptor (SSTR) imaging Gastro-entero-pancreatic NETs (GEP-NETs),Bronchial NETs,Carcinoid tumors,Unknown primary NET
Well-differentiated NETs .
3. Is it safe?
Yes, It is generally safe but can be potentially harmful, a small amount of radioactive tracer is used which leaves the body quickly.
4. How long does the test take?
2–3 hours including preparation.
5. Do I need to fast?
Yes, fasting is mandatory (4 to 6 hours) can take plain water. Our team will guide you. Is an attendant required ? attendant is required for any invasive procedure. Is appointment mandatory ? Yes prior appointment is madatory.

The Turnaround Time (TAT) depends on the following factors:

  • Registration date and time
  • Type of scan or test
  • Scan time or sample collection time

In uncommon circumstances, TAT may be delayed due to test complexity or reasons beyond our control. You will be informed of the estimated TAT at the time of registration.
